At Equifax, our people are empowered and supported to truly power their possible. Emily Perez, Commercial Excellence and Pricing Manager based in the Dominican Republic, is an inspiring example of this culture in action. From her background in mathematics to her leadership in commercial excellence, Emily's journey is defined by a passion for data and a deep commitment to financial inclusion.

Tell us about your career journey at Equifax. What drew you to the company?

“I have a background in Mathematics and Statistics, so I am naturally a very tech-oriented person who is absolutely passionate about data,” Emily shares. “What initially drew me to Equifax was the clear alignment between my personal values and the company’s purpose. I wanted to work somewhere where my skills could contribute to something bigger—like driving greater financial inclusion.”

Emily's path at Equifax has been one of continuous growth. She initially joined as a Pricing Leader, but her curiosity quickly led her to explore new avenues. “I fell in love with the commercial side of the business,” she explains. “I saw a gap where I could make a significant impact, and last year, I was promoted into my current role in Commercial Excellence.”

What is Commercial Excellence, and what skills should one build to succeed in this field?

For Emily, Commercial Excellence is about ensuring that the customer is at the center of every business decision. It involves bridging the gap between technical data and real-world value.

“To thrive in this space, you need a mix of technical and soft skills,” Emily advises. “Beyond understanding data science, you must be a strong advocate for the customer. Key skills include:

  • Curiosity: Always look outside of your immediate tasks and ask how you can improve the company.
  • Communication: Building strong relationships is essential for influencing without authority.
  • A Growth Mindset: Don’t get stagnant; always look for ways to help others grow alongside you.”

What are some of your proudest projects at Equifax?

“Without a doubt, it was launching the Commercial Excellence training across LATAM back in 2023. The goal was to empower our sales teams to speak a common 'language of value.' We moved beyond just listening to what a customer says they want, to actually using our data to understand their underlying behaviors and needs.”

On a personal level, this project was a masterclass in global collaboration; I learned so deeply about our different business units and regions. But the real 'win' was joining our sales members in actual customer meetings and seeing them apply the training in real-time. Watching a team member pivot their strategy to address a customer’s specific pain point—and then closing the deal because of it—was incredibly fulfilling. It proved that when we lead with insight, we don't just sell; we solve.”

How would you describe the culture at Equifax?

“The environment here is incredibly supportive,” says Emily. “We operate as 'One Equifax,' meaning we are all working toward the same purpose. It’s a culture where your ideas are truly heard and valued, which gives you a great deal of autonomy and opportunity to lead.”

Beyond the work, Emily emphasizes the sense of community. “From team celebrations to parties, we know how to have fun together. The people I’ve met through my various projects and through training have truly shaped who I am as a professional.”

Who would make a great fit at Equifax?

“It’s the right place for you if you are brave enough to propose new ideas and aren’t waiting for someone to give you a roadmap. If you have the agency to take advantage of the opportunities here, you will find genuine fulfillment.”
