From Intern to Analyst: How Raúl Miranda Launched His Cybersecurity Career at Equifax

Are you looking for a career where you aren't just watching from the sidelines, but actively defending global data from day one? At Equifax, our interns don’t just "shadow"—they contribute to the mission-critical work that keeps our customers safe.

We recently sat down with Raúl Miranda, a former intern who successfully transitioned into a full-time role as a Cybersecurity Analyst. Coming from a background in Business Informatics, Raúl shared how his 12-week journey turned into a thriving career in our Security Operations Center (SOC).

Bridging the Gap Between Classroom and SOC

Raúl’s path started at the Paraíso campus, where he studied Business Informatics—a hybrid of administration and computing. While the university gave him a strong foundation in operating systems and networks, he found that the true "deep dive" began the moment he joined the Equifax team.

"The transition was a learning curve. Most of my specialized cybersecurity knowledge was acquired during the internship through day-to-day investigations, just like the full-time analysts do," Raúl explains.

A Vote of Confidence from Day One

One of the standout aspects of the Equifax early career experience is the level of trust placed in our participants. For Raúl, there was no "busy work." Instead, he was immersed in detection and response, investigating potential cyber threats and determining their root causes.

"In the Cyber team, you feel like a part of the team with the same responsibilities," says Raúl. "They give us a vote of confidence; we perform almost all the same tasks as full-time analysts, from the moment we start as interns."

Growth Beyond the Internship

After four months as an intern and now established as a full-time professional, Raúl has seen his skillset expand far beyond technical code.

  • Continuous Learning: "In Cyber, you learn something new every day. Even if tasks seem similar, there is always a new nuance to discover."
  • Collaborative Mindset: Raúl emphasizes that moving to a full-time role shifted his focus toward team-wide success. Whether it's managing a large influx of security alerts or supporting a colleague with a complex query, teamwork is the heartbeat of the SOC.
  • Mentorship: Throughout his journey, Raúl was supported by mentors who guided him through the department’s complexities, ensuring he was never tackling a challenge alone.

Build Your Future with Us

Raúl’s story is a testament to how our internship program serves as a real-world bridge to professional excellence. By the time he finished his degree, he wasn't just a graduate—he was an experienced analyst ready to take on the world of Cybersecurity.
