The Lead Data Insights Data Scientist will serve as a technical expert and hands-on leader within our Data and Analytics team, turning complex data into actionable visual solutions. In this role, you will lead cross-functional initiatives to build high-impact analytical dashboards, establish data access standards, and coach junior team members to drive business success. What You'll Do

  • Deliver topical and actionable NZ insights, providing industry-specific intelligence to help our customers navigate the credit and finance landscape.

  • Serve as a thought leader for data visualisation, developing new methodologies to elevate individual and team performance.

  • Lead Data and Analytics professionals, IT, Sales, and clients to design, document, test, and support internal and customer-facing data visual solutions.

  • Create strategies, standards, and best practices for data visualisation, data access, and data integration across big data analytical platforms.

  • Design and construct tailored dashboards and reports that summarise vast quantities of complex data.

  • Create presentation-ready visualisations and analyses using Tableau and  cloud native visualisation technologies.

  • Build wireframes and interactive mock-ups of dashboards to communicate functionality to internal stakeholders and clients.

  • Define agile data extraction and transformation methodologies using SQL, R, Hive, Impala, or Python to derive data marts driving dashboards.

  • Provide hands-on leadership, establishing priorities, coaching, and mentoring junior team members to align with overall business strategy.

What Experience You Need

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM major or equivalent quantitative discipline.

  • 7–10 years of experience in a data analytics or data science role.

  • Proven hands-on leadership experience, specifically coaching, guiding, and mentoring junior team members.

  • Demonstrated experience writing code in Python, JavaScript, and SQL.

  • Experience extracting and transforming data using platforms such as SQL, R, Hive, Impala, or Python.

  • Hands-on experience building visualisations using Spotfire or open-source visualisation platforms.


What Could Set You Apart

  • Credit risk management and analytics experience

  • Active Cloud certification, specifically hands-on experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

  • Prior work experience delivering credit risk, commercial, or consumer-type insights.

  • Hands-on experience with Tableau or broader Business Intelligence (BI) tools.

  • Proven record of consulting directly with business users to translate complex technical architectures into actionable commercial insights
