The Leadership Code: Unlocking the Secrets of Great Leaders

Rajan (1)

For Rajan Kundoor, leadership isn’t just about managing operations, it’s about shaping futures—both for the people he leads and the innovations he champions. Since joining Equifax in 2014, Rajan has embraced change, tackled challenges head-on, and built teams that thrive in the face of complexity.

Building Teams, Transforming Cultures

Joining Equifax marked the beginning of a new chapter for Rajan. Initially, he led offshore delivery for Equifax Workforce Solutions (EWS), but soon his role expanded. “The last six years have been nothing short of incredible,” he reflects. “I was lucky to be part of Equifax’s transformation journey. At every stage, I had support from my managers, peers, and team. That support allowed me to tackle even the toughest challenges with confidence.”

From building teams from scratch to overseeing global transitions, Rajan didn’t just adapt to change—he helped create it. One of his proudest moments? Building a team of 1,000+ engineers for Equifax’s Product Engineering Center (PEC) in India. “Seeing that team come together, watching individuals grow and thrive, was deeply rewarding. It wasn’t just about hitting numbers—it was about creating something that would last.”

Leadership with Heart

Rajan doesn’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to leadership. Instead, he adapts his style to the situation, whether it’s democratic decision-making or transformational leadership. “I believe in empowering my team,” he says. “Give them the tools and the trust they need, and they’ll surprise you.” This people-first approach is one of the reasons Rajan has been so successful in building high-performing teams. “The key is creating a positive, growth-oriented culture where everyone feels valued and heard.”

Advice to Aspiring Tech Leaders

For those looking to follow in his footsteps, Rajan’s advice is clear: “Technical expertise is crucial, but it’s only part of the puzzle. You need to stay curious, embrace change, and align your work with the bigger picture.” Adaptability, he believes, is key—along with the ability to connect with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. He also emphasizes the importance of communication. “You can have the best ideas in the world, but if you can’t communicate them effectively, they’ll get lost. And above all, lead with transparency and ethics—those are non-negotiable.”

Beyond the Office: A Love for Cinema and Art

When he’s not leading teams or solving complex operational issues, Rajan finds joy in the simpler things: oil painting and movies. “I’ve always been a fan of classic Hindi and Malayalam films,” he shares. One of his favorite moments in cinema? Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic line in Toofan: “Don’t worry, be happy.” It’s a philosophy Rajan tries to live by, even in the fast-paced world of tech leadership.

Looking Forward

Rajan’s journey at Equifax is far from over. As he continues to lead the PECs and help drive innovation, his eyes are set on the future. “There’s always more to learn, more to build, and more to achieve,” he says. With his passion for problem-solving and his dedication to fostering a supportive culture, Rajan’s next chapter promises to be as impactful as the last. In a world of constant change, Rajan remains a steady force—leading with integrity, innovation, and an unshakable belief in the power of teamwork.
