From Intern to Training Hundreds around the Globe

It benefits a whole organization when knowledge is not siloed and learning concepts are easily documented and shared.

Nate Clary

Developing from an intern to an expert in his field, Nate’s story of learning and growth leaves us in awe.

Nate Clary began his career journey at Equifax, working as a Software Engineer intern in Charleston. The following year, he applied and made it into Equifax's Finance Rotational program in Atlanta.

“The Rotational Development Program is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to get experience in different areas of Equifax before a permanent role in the company.”

Nate continued to further his learning, including utilizing Equifax’s tuition reimbursement program. He recently completed his graduate degree from Georgia Tech. During this time, he also made impactful contributions in his current role as a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst.

“I have been incredibly fortunate with teams/managers that have allowed me to carve out a role best suited for my skill set and maximize my value to Equifax. It is both energizing and rewarding to be matched to a career that positions me to succeed.”

Nate has taken what he’s learned and extends himself as a resource. He is generous in offering his time to help others.

He recently traveled to Australia to train hundreds of colleagues and consult. Learn more about Nate’s experience in his own words below.

Tell us about a project you were excited to be a part of. Why did it mean so much to you?

Completing projects in two offices outside of the United States (Canada and Australia) was very special to me. It was my first taste of traveling internationally, and it really expressed to me the confidence my managers had in me to represent them and go single-handedly for each project.

Could you share more about your assignment in Australia?

I had two objectives while I was there:

  1. I had a Business Intelligence objective to onboard and train 400+ Australia & New Zealand users to Tableau and transition them off of their previous reporting tool. This involved creating data sources and developing a foundation of reports for the Sales and Finance team.
  2. The second objective was to learn about their operations and develop a standard for tracking profitability by Business Line. This forced me to get immersed in a Business Unit fairly new to me and interact with all pieces of the ANZ organization, which was an interesting challenge beyond my original realm of Finance.

Looking back on your career journey, would you have done anything differently?

I may have met some really amazing people just a few years earlier if I could do it all over again! I am really happy with the opportunities I have received, the people I am around and the role that I feel I have developed for myself. I get to work with people every single day, and I never have the same month of projects.

That being said, I think I was very fortunate to be in the right place at the right time for some of these circumstances. It can only increase your odds of this happening when people know your name by building your network, taking advantage of mentorships, or at least having some regular interaction and opportunity for advice from people further in their career than you. I wish I had this same perspective on the value of their advice, experience and connection when I first began my career.

What do you enjoy most about the culture at Equifax?

It is an incredibly uplifting culture. I have consistently interacted with other people and teams that have never given the impression that their time is more valuable than my own. It benefits a whole organization when knowledge is not siloed and learning concepts are easily documented and shared. In having three new positions in three years, I am especially appreciative of the effort others have put into instilling a concept in me, so I try to pay that same effort forward.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Hobbies?

I am a huge sports fan, especially my Atlanta teams but also in general for the NFL, college football and NBA. I really enjoy cooking (and showing off a picture of a nice meal), so if you are somebody that likes any of these, too, then let’s grab a coffee and chat!
