Leading at the forefront of innovation while maintaining personal balance is no easy task. Luiz Cotrim, Senior Manager of Analytics at Equifax | BoaVista, has mastered both. In this interview, Cotrim reflects on his passion for mathematics and leadership, and his role in groundbreaking projects that have transformed Brazil’s credit system. His journey is a testament to how dedication, collaboration, and balance drive professional success and personal fulfillment.

What project has made the greatest impact on you as a leader?

The 'Cadastro Positivo' project was a defining moment for me as a leader. This project transformed the Brazilian credit landscape, and I’m proud to have been a part of it.

The scope of the project was immense. We received data from over 230 million individuals and companies across Brazil. The data exceeded billions of rows, requiring us to redesign our entire data collection and processing infrastructure, as well as our statistical modeling. We had to rethink our approach to data and transform our process by incorporating Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques. Leading my team through these challenges helped me grow as both a leader and a data scientist.

What advice do you have for achieving a successful career?

For me, the pillars of a successful career are dedication, collaboration, and the support of loved ones. Dedication is what fuels continuous learning and growth. Collaboration is key to achieving big things together. And sharing each victory with those around you makes the journey all the more fulfilling.

What do you admire most about the people you work with? 

What stands out to me is how willing people are to help and collaborate. At Equifax, teamwork is key, and you really see the value of collaboration every day. It's inspiring to be part of a team where everyone is not only talented but also genuinely invested in each other's success.

How did Equifax help you achieve a work-life balance? 

Equifax has been instrumental in helping me achieve balance between my career and personal life. The flexibility they offer has allowed me to focus on both my work and well-being, and over the last three years, I’ve made significant improvements in spending quality time with family and friends, as well as enhancing my physical and mental health. For example, I love to take tennis lessons every Friday to recharge.
