Synopsis of the role

The Data Engineer Leveraging data fabric as an enabler for business transformation,  is responsible for designing data pipelines that enable the organisation transformation from a credit bureau to a data and analytics organisation.  In conjunction with the Data team, this role will play a critical role in the overall data strategy by staying current on emerging trends and innovation in modern data management methods. Reporting to the VP, Data Modernization and working closely with IT, the Data Engineer will be responsible for designing end-to-end data integration that leverages our investment in Cloud technology, including the development of alternate data exchanges within our data fabric, and building more flexible tools to ingest and leverage a broader range of data assets . To support the growth in our data assets and in close collaboration with the Data Acquisition team, the Data Engineer will work with the Data Architect and Data Scientist within the Data Modernization team to build traceable and automated data pipelines with quality built in.  To support the robust data environment, this role will work closely with Data Governance, ensuring that there is clear yet nimble oversight,  governance and processes to ensure the protection and consistency of our data assets.

What You’ll Do 

  • Proactively drive the vision for data engineering and define and execute on a plan to achieve that vision. Understand the business vision and requirements and translate that into data systems and pipelines.

  • Design new data structures to maximise the value of our Cloud-based data fabric to expand into new data sources

  • Collaborate closely with Data Acquisition to understand the overall data strategy and support through developing strong data ingestion and integration plans

  • Optimise the overall data/information flow by reducing redundancy and enabling accessibility within security boundaries.

  • Drive the design, building, and launching of new data pipelines for the purposes of increased data utility, data analytics, and machine learning.

  • Build a robust, high quality, integrated data asset.

  • Drive data quality across related business areas.

  • Manage the delivery of high impact dashboards and data visualisations.

  • Facilitate and accelerate the movement of key data assets to GCP.

  • Participate in the development of strategies, standards, and best practices in the areas of data access and integration within Cloud and ensure team's understanding and alignment of the strategic direction.

  • Partner and collaborate with Technology, Security, and IT Operations to facilitate and accelerate the movement of key data assets to Cloud.

  • Stay abreast of the rapidly developing Cloud technologies landscape and share knowledge with the team, others internally and  with customers.

What Experience you need 

  • Proven track record of both business-minded and Data  leadership

  • A strong understanding of data-driven, technology based product development with 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience designing and building analytical solutions to solve real world problems.

  • 5+ years experience data engineering bulig integrated data solutions and pipelines

  • Strong knowledge of Cloud-based capabilities and platforms (Google cloud an asset)

  • Experience in analytics, software engineering, data management/architecture or similar and experience in managing technical documentation 

  • Strong knowledge of Big Data platforms such as Hadoop and the associated tools needed for analytics and  a good understanding of modern data architecture, data security, and design principles

  • Strong understanding of agile methodologies including the creation of epics and user stories 

  • Proven experience with Master Data Management and Reference Data Management

  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a matrix environment to deliver complete solutions is required.
