What you’ll do:

We’re looking for a high-energy Legal Counsel (Regulatory & Commercial) to join our Legal Compliance and Risk Team, providing advice and assistance to the Equifax data, analytics and technology business in Australia. This is a hands-on role, with significant exposure to business stakeholders across multiple business units. 

Legal services you will provide include: legal and risk management advice on a variety of legal issues affecting the business, in particular privacy (including credit reporting), data, technology and consumer law, drafting and negotiation of customer and supplier contracts, to assist the business in navigating a complex and evolving regulatory landscape; involvement in industry regulator and industry body interactions; and involvement in business and technology transformation projects.

This role is a 12 month fixed term contract.

What are we looking for?

  • Tertiary qualified with undergraduate law degree & hold a current practising certificate

  • Commercial lawyer with 3 to 5 years’ post qualification experience (PQE)

  • Privacy/data law expertise

  • Proven commercial contract drafting, review and negotiation skills

  • Must have reputable law firm experience

  • Ability to explain legal concepts in a commercial context

  • Demonstrated track-record of rapid provision of concise, solutions-based legal advice

  • Commercially astute and customer-focussed with good practical business judgement

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Capacity to assume responsibility and work independently

  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with senior management 

  • Ability to develop strong and cooperative working relationships at all levels of the business

Extra points for any of the following:

  • Experience in a technology/data related environment

  • Credit reporting law experience

  • Prior in house experience with a major corporation.
