The Technical Product Manager is responsible for understanding and maturing the technology platform and ensuring successful delivery of enhancements to deliver on business, security, and technology  objectives. This person is a dynamic, charismatic, empathetic, and dedicated technical product leader interacting with Product Management, Engineering, Leadership, and GTM and other key stakeholders. The Technical PM will develop a deep understanding of the platform and will have the opportunity to provide directional oversight of how it is built, including architecture and interconnectivity to technology systems/shared services. Clarity of product offerings on the platform will be key to success in this role, including how they are delivered, how to facilitate changes, additions, or build new products based on the goals of business and growing or supporting revenue retention. Day to day, the Technical PM approves business requirements, estimation, functional specifications, testing strategy and other activities to ensure platform alignment to expected outcomes while leading and partnering with engineering to deliver the best solutions.

What you'll do

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of goals and desired objectives of the initiatives and features working with stakeholders on a day-to-day basis to help define technical product strategy, clarify scope, and provide input into functional decisions. 

  • Provide technical thought leadership for your platform and the technical product team, bridging the gap between idea and delivery, advancing technologies/concepts and seeking cross-business-unit collaboration on solutions. Confidently lead and influence technical design and direction 

  • Contribute to and assist in the understanding of the product catalog and global services catalog that will encourage teams to reuse services across the business units to expedite speed to market; partner with solution architect(s) and engineering on use of shared/global services. 

  • Clearly set the product prioritization with a balance of near-term deliverables and longer-term investment in technology platforms. Able to articulate the vision and direction at all levels in the organization through presentation, roadmaps, and whatever channel is most appropriate for stakeholders 

  • Regularly assess risks, anticipate bottlenecks, manage escalations and make trade-offs that balance business needs with constraints.

In this position, you will play a leader role in transforming the platform and product in support of business objectives, ensuring a positive influence with your engineering partners to deliver outcomes together

  • Work as player/coach both leading direction of product owner(s) to ensure the features in a release represent what is important but also stepping into tactical work as necessary to keep execution on schedule. 

  • Leverage a deep knowledge of the market from your product management partners and customers need to guide innovation and influence direction and trends for technology.  

  • Work with the Product Manager(s), Solution Architect(s), Tech Lead(s), and Operational team(s) to identify and prioritize functional and non-functional requirements for product features, security requirements, technical needs, operational tools, and infrastructure needs.  

  • Be able to communicate at a high and detailed level about the platform and products, how they work, their structure/architecture, and team priorities, timelines, and direction. 

  • Produce work flows, complete data mapping and perform business process design with Solutions Architect(s) and Tech Lead(s) to contribute to the product platform body of knowledge; create high level documentation and product user guides for systems used by Product Operations and Marketing. 

  • Analyze key reports and data to identify anomalies and variances and research the reasons behind the results

  • Communicate with/report out to internal stakeholders including Product Managers and Leadership to aid in decision making

  • Oversee or partner with product management and digital strategy for on-going market validation through review and testing of new and existing concepts with existing and prospective customers to ensure maintained competitive advantage and delivery of value

  • As needed in conjunction with Product Owner: 

  • Backlog Development 

  • Write user stories and requirements and manage backlog of development team 

  • Planning and coordination of releases 

  • Work with Quality Assurance team member(s) to identify test cases for testing and automated testing 

  • Conduct UAT prior to release on features and as appropriate coordinate with business customers to conduct product integration testing 

  • Deliver demos of solutions to key stakeholders, potential customers, and others when needed 

  • Ahead of and during Program Increment (PI) Planning 

  • Drafting the team’s specific objectives for the upcoming Program Increment (PI).

  • Help to lead the development team in sizing features and stories and determining what can be committed in the Program Increment based upon the team’s established velocity.  

What experience you need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Business or related field 

  • 5+  years of experience leading technical design efforts with a specific product in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment.  Building and maintaining roadmap(s) and product backlog delivering thoughtful requirements for engineering to develop

  • 5+ years of experience leading white boarding sessions for complex software architectures with senior engineers as well as briefing customers and internal executives.  

  • Experience in delivering products using Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) using Agile, Scrum or Kanban

  • Possesses a deep understanding of web service technologies, user interface/interaction, and knowledge of Systems Development and Project Management lifecycles 

  • Experience with Product & Technology Roadmap development through influence of key business and technology stakeholders to identify business priorities 

  • Outstanding leadership and motivational skills 

  • Possesses a willingness to empower as well as inspire commitment and positive attitude in the team 

  • Possesses an inquisitive and innovative mindset with a demonstrated ability to recognize opportunities to create distinctive value is desired 

  • Familiarity with Scaled Agile Framework or Pragmatic Marketing is plus 

  • Experienced with evaluating workload to drive efficiency
