Synopsis of the role

The Chief Data Office is a fast growing team critical to the Bureau’s objectives of transforming into a Data and Analytics organization. It plays a critical function in building and supporting best-in-class data assets. Data is our second most important asset after our people. Data Stewards are at the heart of managing this critical asset.

The Data Steward is a high performing role that supports the management of a specific data subject area in the Canadian Data Library. This individual will work within a network of stewards who serve as subject matter experts on the data, ensure appropriate cataloging, documentation on lineage, quality, and internal and external support. They are the ‘go-to’ source of knowledge of what data we have, where it is, what we are allowed to do with it, innovative ways that it can be used, what state it’s in, and what has happened to it. The Data Steward should be tenacious, creative, curious, with an appetite for growth and innovative business leadership. As a Data and Analytics company, this role is critical to revenue generation and key to growth.

What you’ll do:

  • Domain Expertise: Understand the life cycle of Equifax data across all stages from ingestion to product delivery

  • Business Transformation: Support the migration activities as we move our data sources into the cloud. Understand the systems and applications that leverage the data and ensure best practices for movement, integration and transformation with respect to maintaining consistency and quality across. Work to maintain the source of truth on our data.

  • Quality Monitoring: Work with the data quality lead and analyst on the development of threshold based reports that efficiently and reliably identify areas for further investigation and improvement. Act on the findings of these reports in a timely manner, prioritizing efforts based on business impact.

  • Data Quality: Work with the Data Quality lead and the data modernization team to establish preventive practices to ensure fit for purpose quality of our data assets.

  • Metadata and Data Catalogue: develop and support the development of metadata artifacts (schemas, business rules, data dictionaries), document and provide support for downstream stakeholders to augment data lineage, and work to consolidate corporate knowledge and IP around our data. Consider yourself the librarian associated with your data subject area. Curate the innovative uses of the data and value it generates.

  • Governance: Ensure consistent application of data policies and custodianship, data usage, and other internal compliance and standards.

  • Be an ambassador for our data assets and encourage data awareness that can identify new revenue opportunities and / or efficiencies. Maintain documentation and share knowledge base. Find innovative ways to effectively educate and communicate across the organization.

What experience you need:

  • 5+ years experience with industry leading lenders and/or data companies with working knowledge of data structures, data management, and data lifecycle.

  • 5+ years experience in credit risk, financial services, marketing, fraud, insurance, or equivalent industry

  • Strong aptitude and proven ability to develop data driven solutions to meet business objectives

  • 5+ years experience with data and business insights analysis which identify and drive ongoing excellence in data quality practices.

  • Strong desire to efficiently manage and catalog data assets with the purpose of both maximizing value and minimizing risk.

  • Experience in analytics, software engineering, data management/architecture or similar and experience in managing technical documentation 

  • The ability to prioritize work among competing pressures.

  • Experience with Collibra and other similar tools

  • Experience with SQL, Google Big Query, or equivalent tools.
