Director - Consumer Data

Synopsis of the role

Leading a team of data professionals, the Director, Consumer Data will be responsible for building and managing the leading consumer data exchange in Canada.  The incumbent will work in concert with the Consumer Product organization to lead the consumer data strategy with a focus on acquiring new data sources and will partner with other organizations to gain access to alternative data sources that power our key products.  This will include supporting resources to secure new data contributors and research potential new data sources to embed in our solutions.  The Consumer Data leader will work closely with Corporate Strategy and the Consumer line of business to support new initiatives such as Open Banking. 

The mandate of the Director, Consumer Data includes the overall data quality of our consumer data assets, ensuring data load metrics, proactive monitoring and health checks are in place.  In addition, the incumbent will collaborate closely with Data Governance to ensure appropriate tools are in place and will lead the internal process to assess adherence to Legal, Security and business regulations for all consumer data use. The Director, Consumer Data will work closely with IT to fully leverage data-oriented Cloud capabilities and ensure hit rates are maximized with the highest level of accuracy.  Overall success for the role will be measured by an industry leading hit rate and depth of data available for Canadian consumers. 

What You’ll Do

  • Identify potential data sources and work with Product/Partnerships to build business relationships with relevant vendors

  •  Collaborate with Sales to identify additional data contributors

  • Work closely with Data Operations to ensure data files are loaded in a timely manner with no errors

  • Proactively identify potential problems or changes to the data with Data Operations and develop any remediation steps required

  •  Manage the Ask Data process to ensure all new uses of Consumer data adhere to legal, security and business requirements

What Experience you need  

  • 10+ years experience working with consumer data in a regulated, privacy-compliant environment

  •  5+ years developing monetizing data assets leveraging traditional product management methodologies

  • 5+ years of  strong understanding of Data Governance/Stewardship and Proven experience in managing enterprise data quality programs

  • 5+ years of Strong knowledge of Canadian Privacy regulations for consumers 

  •  7+years of demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority and secure support from key stakeholders, including senior management

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Physics (essential)

  What could set you apart 

  • Financial Industry experience and knowledge of Credit Reporting regulations an asset

  •  Knowledge of Cloud-based data management and infrastructure tools a strong asset

  • Experience in developing high performance teams and developing talent, particularly in high demand sectors including Analytics, IT and Data

  • Current knowledge of emerging industry players who can be potential partners for either data contribution or acquisition

  • Master’s level degree in a business-related field/MBA (preferred)
